AMENDMENT ONE continues the important non-partisan legislation that Governor Bob Martinez (R), 1987-91, created called Pr…eservation 2000, and Governor Jeb Bush (R), 1999-2007, continued under the Florida Forever Act. Under Preservation 2000 and Florida Forever, approximately $300 million was generated each year, which was used to save 2.4 million acres. With the down-turn of the economy, Governor Scott proposed zeroing out the Florida Forever and use that money collected for other purposes. Under Governor Scott it ultimately received $744,000, basically shutting down the effort to save vital lands for the economic and physical health of our state. AMENDMENT ONE is on the ballot to reinstate the non-partisan effort to save the beauty and health of our state. VOTE YES ON AMENDMENT ONE!
AMENDMENT ONE uses money collected from real estate transactions, called documentary stamps, to protect the most important, and most threatened parcels of land, while providing that future Floridians share the cost and also the enjoyment of living in a beautiful state. Thirty-three percent of the net revenues derived from the existing excise tax on documents will be used for this fund. THE AMENDMENT DOES NOT INCREASE OR DECREASE STATE REVENUES.
