Join us at the Water Management District meeting and sign up to speak during General Public Comment (item #31 on the agenda). Together we can flood the meeting with voices demanding to “SEND WATER SOUTH” by purchasing EAA land in 2015! Paton White will be speaking there and needs many voices in support. (talking points are below)
SAVE THE ST. LUCIE!
SAVE THE CALOOSAHATCHEE! SAVE THE EVERGLADES!
Governor Scott and the South Florida Water Management District have a historic opportunity to buy land needed to store water in the Everglades Agricultural Area that expires in October!
Our environment and economy can’t wait!
Everglades National Park is starved for water, while the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers are polluted with discharges from Lake Okeechobee that destroy jobs, hurt our economy, lower real estate values, and pose a health risks to Florida’s families.
Tell the South Florida Water Management District:
“BUY THE LAND! SEND WATER SOUTH!”

Talking Points for the SFWMD Meeting
Thursday 2/12 at 9:00am
Reminder: Sign up to speak during general public comment #31 on the agenda!
Florida is having a water crisis! We need to SEND WATER SOUTH to Everglades National Park to save the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Estuaries.
Our families and businesses can’t endure another summer of 2013 when estuaries were devastated! Our water is the lifeblood of our communities and economy.
The C-44 and C-43 are important projects that must move forward, but we also need an EAA reservoir to provide storage and reduce polluted discharges from the lake.
You have a contract to buy land in the EAA that could be used for a much-needed reservoir that expires in October. If you’re not going to buy this land – what is your plan?
The EAA Reservoir was a critical part of CERP and is vital to sending water south.
Yet again this critical item has been left off the Water Management District’s monthly agenda – when will you discuss this issue with the public?!
We have been polite and we have been patient but you cannot keep ignoring this water crisis that impacts our families, our economy, our rivers, and our Everglades.
You have a once in a lifetime chance to secure vital lands in the EAA that expires in October of this year – please don’t let it slip away while our children pay the price with more lost summers.
Indian River Lagoon has been receiving discharges for a month (DURING THE DRY SEASON!) – what are you going to do to solve this problem?
Actions speak louder than words. Governor Scott has highlighted the need for storage in the EAA – please put this on your agenda and make our estuaries and Everglades a priority!
We already have a contract for the land we need. Now that we can afford it, why are you letting U.S. Sugar renege on the deal?
This land will never be cheaper than it is now to provide a permanent solution.
This is the most important thing you can do this year. Buy the land!
Your silence is killing our rivers.
