After the thrilling passage of Amendment 1 last Nov 4, there are obstacles we face in implementing Amendment 1: special interest groups that didn’t help pass Amendment 1, but now want to influence where the money will go. They are urging legislators use Amendment 1 to fund water supply development projects that could further deplete our water resources, to bail out developments that have neglected their own wastewater infrastructure needs, and to push projects that fuel irresponsible growth in Florida’s vulnerable natural areas.
That’s not what Amendment 1 is intended to do.

Please don’t delay. The Florida Senate has already received more than 1,000 comments (and counting) – we need to be sure our voices are heard! Encourage your friends and family to do the same.
As committed as we were to placing Amendment 1 on the ballot and seeing it get passed, we are now committed to defending it from special interests who aim to divert funding away from conservation.
We encourage your to meet with your legislators. There is nothing more impactful than a face-to-face meeting with your own state senator or representative to discuss Amendment 1 and its implementation.

We are fighting this battle on many fronts–digitally, by phone and mail, in person, through lobbying with our coalition partners at the Capitol, and through grassroots efforts. We have many voices advocating on our behalf and many tools in our toolbox to ensure that the intent of Amendment 1 is honored. We need to keep up the pressure for the next couple of months, because this year, this legislative session, will set the tone for the next 20 years, which is the lifespan of Amendment 1. Please do whatever you can to help us win this battle, for future generations and for Florida.
