Shannon Estenoz
Shannon Estenoz is the Director of Everglades Restoration Initiatives for the US Department of the Interior. Ms. Estenoz will give us an insight into why Everglades restoration is so important, discuss how the program is progressing and what we can expect moving ahead. The Everglades is a fundamental part of our life in south Florida. Crucial to our water supply, the Everglades is a severely threatened unique environment. The focus of a huge intergovernmental restoration effort, the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) provides a framework and guide to restore, protect and preserve the water resources of central and southern Florida. As the DOI representative of Everglades restoration, she coordinates the Department’s restoration efforts and is Executive Director of the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force. Ms. Estenoz’s 17 year Everglades career includes roles as program director, Executive Director, and regional director for local, national and international NGOs and served three terms as National Co-Chair of the Everglades Coalition. Ms. Estenoz holds degrees in international affairs and civil engineering from Florida State University.
