13th Annual Everglades Day Festival – “Mysteries of the Everglades”
This year we are focusing our speaker presentations and guided activities on mysteries within the Everglades or about the Everglades. Anne Swanson helps visitors find clues to “Where are the Butterflies?”. Howard Bernstein discovers “The Wonders of the Wetlands”, Hal Albertson and Harvey Eisen interpret “Northern Everglades – Mysterious Gem”, and “Who MADE the Everglades?” is explored by Michelle Williams. Kathy Walters asks ““B” is For…?” and “What Curious Factoids Lurk Along The Trail” are shown by Barry Mintzer.
“Magical Mystical Mudbugs-Everglades Crayfish” are presented by Peggy VanArman, Marcie Kapsch challenges “So You Think You Know Your Native Snakes?” and “What are Burmese pythons doing in the Florida’s Everglades?” is discovered with Jenny Ketterlin-Eckles & Liz Barraco.
Clive Pinnock asks “Raptors… Different from other Birds?” and Becky Wolff leads “Nature Detectives 101: Whose scat is that anyway?”
Gaynelle Gosselin delights visitors with “Into The Mystery” on the live stage and in the Theater, Laura Brandt asks, “What can alligators and crocodiles tell us about Everglades restoration?” and Nick Aumen explores “Everglades Restoration, Where Do We Go From Here?”
Mystery authors Jonathan King and Eliot Kleinberg join a “Murder in the Everglades” Authors Panel Discussion and for more fun for the young at heart, don’t forget to Play the Mystery Scavenger Hunt — Look for clues on the trees within the Cypress Swamp – Pick up your answer sheet from the Information Table and return there for your prize!
The Everglades Day event is free except for food, and for people of all ages and cultures. There will be translators available for those speaking Spanish or Creole.
Mission Statement: The Everglades Day Festival was created to promote an awareness and understanding of the importance of this fragile Everglades ecosystem to ALL South Floridians. This annual event uses science, art, music, and interactive programs to educate the public about the importance of this world-renowned water resource.
