Join field guide Bruce Pickholtz in this restricted access STA. Audubon Everglades in partnership with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), is pleased to offer this special access to this STA . Communication is via two-way radios.
The purpose of this trip is to document the elusive Black Rail. Additional target birds are the Sedge Wren, Grasshopper Sparrow and Virginia Rail.
There is one spot where we use the cars as blinds and stay in the cars. We are less likely to get the Black Rail to vocalize and zero chance of actually seeing one if people are walking around.
Different parts of the STA we will get out and explore on foot.
