Birding Workshop presented by the Audubon Society of the Everglades

Registration:  8:15 – 8:45

8:30 – 9:30 Birding by Ear and Impression with Paddy Cunningham.  Please preregister for this class as it will start promptly. Listen and watch for birds in Pine Jog’s native gardens.   Learn to identify birds by sound and impression from one of South Florida’s premier birders!  At the same time experience the beauty of a native garden and its impact on our native wildlife.

8:45 – 10:40 Birding and Bird Behavior with Clive Pinnock.  This class is for the beginner and intermediate birder.   Clive, manager of Okeeheelee Nature Center, will present the tools that will make us all better birders. The full enjoyment of bird identification involves much more than recognizing birds by their colors and sizes. In this class, we’ll learn the tools needed to make for better birding as well as the obvious and not so obvious clues (behavior, habitat, etc.) birds give us to help better recognize and enjoy them.

9:40 -10:50 Warblers Made Easy  with Paddy Cunnigham.  There is no easy cure for warbler neck, but learn the easy clues.  This is the time to review and expand your knowledge of warblers in the plumage we see them.  Spring migration is just a few weeks away, be prepared for one of the most exciting times for South Florida birders.

11:00 – noon Raptor Biology with Clive Pinnock and his Feathered Friends.  Raptors or Birds of Prey predominantly play a significant role as predators in the environment they occupy. Their anatomical features and behavior make them a unique group within the world of birds. This class reveals many of their characteristics, discusses the biological roles they occupy (niches) and the impact they have on their prey species.

11:00 – noon Lifers for Birders with Paddy Cunningham.   Be prepared!  Use time tested tips for gaining life birds with less time, effort and money.  Learn the tricks that great birders use and expand your list.  This is a new class that Paddy has prepared for this workshop!
